The Executive Summer School (XSS) on Shipping Finance and Risk Management (SHIPFIN2017) takes place during 5 - 7 July 2017, in Chios island. The XSS is organized under the auspices of Shipping, Trade and Transport Dpt. (STT), University of the Aegean with the support of the Laboratory of Applied Economics and Finance (LAEF). The XSS aims to provide high quality academic education, integrating solid theoretical knowledge with practical professional training in the field of applied shipping finance. Upon XSS completion, the participants will have enriched their theoretical background and will have gained practical skills and capabilities into alternative sources of financing and efficient financial risk management in shipping, which they can incorporate in their business practices. The XSS is predominantly addressed to executives in the shipping and maritime markets and to postgraduate students as well as those interested in these topics. The academic subject of the XSS is particularly timely, critical and useful into an international business setting of turbulent conditions and challenging adjustments, intensified competition, complex risks and increasing uncertainties.
This intensive three-day XSS schedule develops along the following core modules:
(1) Alternative Sources of Financing in Shipping:
1.1 Bank loans and credit risk assessment
1.2 Fund raising in global capital markets
1.3 Alternative financing instruments
(2) Financial Risk Management in Shipping:
2.1 Forward freight agreements (FFAs)
2.2 Freight options (FOs)
2.3 Risk hedging strategies with FFAs.
The XSS organization includes blended approaches on live lectures, practical exercises, group assignments, case studies and business plans. The participants will receive a comprehensive package of lecture material and can be eligible to receive a Certificate of Attendance credible with European transfer credit units (ECTS).
