Dr. Amalia Polydoropoulou is a Professor at University of the Aegean, Department of Shipping, Trade, and Transport (STT), Chios Island, Greece. She is the Vice Rector of Research, Development, Finance and Infrastructure of the University of the Aegean and the Director of the Transportation and Decision Making Laboratory (TRANSDEM) at STT. She has served as the President of the Transport and Shipping Institute (INSTAL) of the University of the Aegean (2009-2011), and as Director of the graduate program studies of STT (2010-2011). Dr. Polydoropoulou received a Civil Engineer Diploma from NTUA, and a MSc. and PhD in Transportation Systems and Decision Sciences from MIT, USA. Dr. Polydoropoulou’s areas of research include transportation systems, transportation demand, market research, and applied econometrics. She has conducted worldwide market research on user response to the introduction of new modes of transportation (modeling mode choice behavior), the adoption of new technologies such as Intelligent Transportation Systems by users (modeling “willingness to pay “behavior), the impact of the eEconomy and social networks on transport, the adoption of e-learning by seafarers, the promotion of intelligent ports, and the development of forecasting models to improve port operations. She has developed recommender systems providing personalized information for users in the shipping industry. She has extensive experience on demand modeling and forecasting techniques. She has developed a four-step transport model system for the Athens Metro Inc. (1997-1999) for the city of Athens, as well as a combined access/mode choice model for the Masterplan for the city of Tel-Aviv (1999-2001). She has worked in the development of the Greek Observatory study (2002-2003), to develop a national mode choice model. She has conducted work for the Athens Public Transport Authority (2007- 2009) developing a decision support and simulation tool to predict future demand and supply under alternative scenarios for public transport alternatives (bus, metro, tram, and trolley) for year 2020. She has served as an advisor for the development of the Commercial Vehicles Model for the city of Moscow (2011-2012). She is currently working on developing a policy platform for Green Transport in Islands (2010-2014). Dr. Polydoropoulou has participated as scientific coordinator and researcher at more than 20 national and European Research Programs, such as POET, SLIM-VRT, iPORTS RURAL INCLUSION, HERMES, INNOSUTRA, PENED, IRAKLEITOS, MULTI-ISLAND, PEGA, URIT, PACTS, and GRETIA. Dr. Polydoropoulou is the author of more than a hundred articles published in well known transportation journals and conference proceedings. |
Prof. Spyros Syropoulos

Prof. Spyros Syropoulos was born in 1970 in Rhodes. He studied Greek and Latin literature and History at the University of Bristol, England. He completed his M.A. (1993) and Ph.D. (1997) at the same University, on the handling of gender relations as means of informing civic ideology via Tragedy.

Professor Helen A. Thanopoulou studied economics at the National University of Athens and holds a postgraduate degree in Development Economics (D.E.A) from the University of Paris I (Panthéon- Sorbonne) and a Doctorate degree in Maritime Studies from the University of Piraeus where she taught briefly until 1995. She spent the next 8 years in Wales, as Lecturer and later Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University and, after 1999, as Director of shipping related postgraduate courses of the Department of Maritime Studies and later of Cardiff Business School. Following her election at the University of the Aegean in late 2003, she returned to Greece serving currently as Associate Professor in Operations Management of Shipping Companies in the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport. She has published on subjects including maritime crises, international division of labour in shipping, shipping competitiveness, shipping investment patterns and strategies, UK shipping policy, Greek shipping, liner alliances and ports, quality shipping, and maritime innovation, in academic journals such as Transportation Research Part E; Marine Policy; Maritime Policy and Management; Maritime Economics and Logistics etc. and in books and edited volumes. Dr.Thanopoulou has participated also in a number of research and consultancy projects in the area of shipping and ports. She has been active in maritime associations and was elected Council member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) in 2008 for two years, and three times Council member of the Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists (ENOE). She has been a regular guest lecturer in undergraduate and post-graduate University courses in Greece and the UK and in summer schools. She has served as external review panel member of post-graduate degrees in the UK and is the Chair of the Review Panel of her Department. She has served also as journal Guest Editor and member of Editorial Boards, as well as a reviewer for a substantial number of international academic journals. She currently teaches Shipping Economics at post-graduate level, and Introduction to Maritime Studies, Operations Management of Shipping Companies I, and Operations Management of Shipping Companies II, as well as Maritime History in the undergraduate program. |

Dr. Seraphim Kapros, is the Head of the Department of Shipping Trade and Transport. He is Professor in the University of the Aegean, at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport. Prof.Kapros is currently the Director of the MSc in Shipping, Trade and Transport. He is a Civil Engineer specialised in Transport Engineering and Planning. He received a PhD in Transportation from the “Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées” (France), following an MSc (DEA) in Transportation from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (France) and an MSc in Physical Planning from the University Paris IV-Sorbonne (France). He is currently teaching courses on Transport Planning, Logistics and Distribution Channels, Intermodal Transport Chains. Seraphim Kapros has participated in more than 45 European and national research projects in the fields of Transport Planning, Logistics, Transport Policy, Urban and Regional Planning, Intermodal Transport and Short Sea Shipping. He is member of the “Observatory of Transport Policies and Strategies in Europe” since 1999; he is also founding member of the European academic network “TRANSPORTNET”. In addition, he is member of the “National Committee of Logistics” (Greece) and of the Railway Regulation Office (Greece), as well as member of the “Freight and Logistics” Programme Committee of the European Transport Conference (Association for European Transport) and of the Scientific Committee of the WCTRS (2010). Seraphim Kapros has published more than seventy papers in scientific journals and international conference proceedings. |

Prof. N. Nikitakos is a graduate of Hellenic Naval Academy (1980) and holds a B.Sc. in Economics (University of Piraeus 1986) and M.Sc. degrees from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, USA (M.Sc. Electrical Engineering, and M.Sc. in Appl. Mathematics). He spent 25 years as Naval Officer (Captain H.N. ret.) when he participated in several NATO and EU committees. He is decorated with 10 national and international medals among them the medal for Kuwait’s liberation and King Fahd’s medal of Saudi Arabia for his participation in operation desert storm. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from National Technical University of Athens (1996). He is Professor of Shipping Informatics and Communications and was Head of the Dept. of Shipping Trade and Transport in the University of the Aegean (2005-2009). He has participated, mainly as coordinator/principal researcher in several European and defense related research projects. He was AMMITEC’s (Association of Maritime Managers Information Technology Electronics and Communication) President from 2006-2010 and currently President of Aegean Institute of the Law of the Sea and Maritime law in Rhodes. He holds 3 international patents on renewable energies at sea and he was awarded a Lloyd’s Greek award List on Maritime Technological Innovation in 2006. He has published 5 books and many articles in international referred journals and conferences. |

Dr. Theodoros SYRIOPOULOS is Professor of Finance at the School of Business, University of the Aegean, Greece. He also holds adjunct and visiting posts at Audencia Nantes School of Management, France; Newcastle University, UK; Shanghai Maritime University, China; Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece; International Hellenic University, Greece; and Hellenic Open University, Greece. Prof. Syriopoulos teaches a range of undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in the field of Finance, including: (1) Undergraduate Level: International Finance; Shipping Finance; Shipping Markets & Risk Management; (2) Postgraduate Level: Advanced Corporate Finance & Risk Management; Financial Derivatives Instruments; Advanced Shipping Finance; Financial Shipping Derivatives; Bank Management; Mergers & Acquisitions; Principles of Corporate Governance. Before joining the academia and for nearly two decades, Prof. Syriopoulos held top executive management posts in banking, investment, asset management, corporate finance and consulting business. Prof. Syriopoulos has also extensive experience in research programs and executive education, as instructor, academic director and organizer of executive programs, summer schools and distance learning education. Prof. Syriopoulos publishes regularly in accredited international financial journals as well as in edited volumes and books in contemporary topics of applied finance. Research fields of interest include: corporate financial management decisions; global capital markets and portfolio management; value creation in mergers & acquisitions; financial derivatives and risk management; shipping finance and banking; and, corporate governance & social responsibility. More than 500 official academic citations have been identified on Prof. Syriopoulos’ published output in accredited journal databases. Prof. Maria Lekakou Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, University of the Aegean |
Dr. Maria Lekakou is Professor in Maritime Economics in Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, and Member of the Council of the University of the Aegean. She has a longstanding experience in maritime policy, as Advisor to the Minister of Mercantile Marine (1996-2000) and a member of the National Regulatory Authority for Internal Maritime Transportation (2001-2004). Maria Lekakou is a co- author of books on European Maritime Policy, and has extensively examined EU short-sea shipping policy developments, maritime tourism, labour affairs as well as European policies related to liner shipping, maritime policy and maritime competition. Maria Lekakou has extensively examined Greek Coastal Shipping, whereas in “Maritime Transport: The Greek Paradigm” she has researched on coastal market developments and its regulation. She has presented over 40 peer reviewed papers in international scientific conferences and has participated in numerous other professional and scientific bodies. She is a member of International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) and a founding member of the Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists.

Dr. Maria A. Lambrou is Associate Professor in e-business with the University of the Aegean, Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport. She obtained her Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the area of Service Engineering (1998); she also has an M.A. in Management Studies from Brunel University, London (1994) and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering -Aristotle University, Thessaloniki. Her research interests include digital shipping and maritime logistics applications, as well as intelligent transportation services, in particular formal specifications techniques and pervasive computing. She has a number of publications in the above areas, and research and technical experience in E.U. R&D projects in communications, eservices, as well as intelligent transport, and e-maritime technologies and applications. She has held Visiting Professor Posts at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Marine Technology-MARINTEK, at Imperial College London, Centre of Transport Studies and with the University of Melbourne, Department of Management and Marketing. She teaches the subjects of e-Business and Internet Technologies, Management Information Systems and Innovation Management (undergraduate programme) also Technologies and Design of Shipping and Transport e-services postgraduate programme). |

Dr. Anna Maria Kotrikla is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, of the University of the Aegean, Greece, where she teaches Transport and the Environment, and Environmental Management, Protection and Policies and the postgraduate course Maritime Environmental Administration. She obtained a BSc in Physics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a PhD in Environmental Science at the University of the Aegean. Her research interests include the study of the effects of transport activities on the environment (with emphasis on the atmospheric environment) and policy development for the protection of the environment from shipping and transport. She has participated in more than ten research projects regarding the protection of the environment and has published ten papers in journals and more than twenty papers in conference proceedings. |

Dr. Ioannis N. Lagoudis is Assistant Professor at the Department of Shipping Trade and Transport at the University of the Aegean and adjunct faculty with the Hellenic Open University where he teaches courses related to strategic management and decision making. Between 2012 and 2016 he served as faculty at the MIT – Malaysia Program and between 2006 and 2010 as the head of R&D for XRTC Business Consultants. He has advised many companies in Asia and Europe on supply chain related issues. He holds a first degree in Economics from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in transport logistics from the University of Cardiff, Cardiff Business School and Post-Doctoral Degree in port logistics funded by the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y). In 2010, he joined MIT’s Center for Transportation and Logistics as a Fulbright Research Scholar where he is affiliated today. His research interests are in the areas of transport management, transport logistics and supply chain management, maritime economics and logistics and strategic management. He has published several papers in conferences and academic journals among the many being the Transportation Journal, European Business Review, International Journal of Transport Management, Maritime Economics and Logistics, Maritime Policy and Management, International Journal of Shipping Transportation and Logistics and International Journal of Aviation Management.

Dr. Victoria Athanassopoulou is Lecturer at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, of the University of the Aegean. She was born in Athens. She obtained her Law Degree at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and her Ph.D. in Commercial and Maritime Law at the University of Hamburg. In her Thesis “Schiffsunternehmen und Schiffsüberlassungsverträge” (Mohr Siebeck Verlag, Tübingen, 2005, 284 pages, Max-Planck Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht, Studien zum ausländischen und internationalen Privatrecht, 151) she makes a thorough investigation concerning the modern forms of economic ship chartering from the perspective of the ship as an enterprise. In her work she introduces a fundamental new approach to the concept of the ship as an enterprise. She analyzes the various forms of ship charters and their practical application in international contracts and she shows the differences between bareboat charterers, time charterers and ship managers and their position as service providers or owners of ships as well as commercial enterprises. Since September 2011 she works as a Lecturer of Commercial and Maritime Law at the Aegean University, Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport in Chios. Her key research areas are Maritime law, Insurance/Reinsurance Law, Commercial Law and Foundation Law. She teaches Maritime Law, Chartering, Marine Insurance Law, Law of the Marine Environment and Sea Labor Law at an undergraduate as well as at a postgraduate level. She has attended several international conferences and she has published widely in the area of maritime and commercial law. She has also published “The Utmost Good Faith in Marine Insurance Law - A Comparative Analysis of the Greek and the English Law” (in Greek), (Athens 2010, 300 pp.). She is also a qualified lawyer admitted to the Piraeus Bar. She is a specialist concerning shipping and trade, focusing mainly on commercial contractual issues and dispute resolution arising from charter parties and bills of lading. Her experience includes both the commercial and the litigation aspects of her practice areas involving among others also vessel arrest proceedings and all kinds of charter agreement. She has extensive experience in all aspects of P & I and Hull Insurance. She writes and speaks fluently English, German and French.

Ioannis Dagkinis is a teaching associate in Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport of University of the Aegean. He is a graduate of Hellenic Merchant Marine Academy and as Chief Engineer was employed on seagoing tankers in their respective positions. He is PhD candidate at the University of the Aegean. He has certified courses in maritime issues, courses in Evaluation and Risk Assessment and computer skills. Research focuses on international projects on renewable energies at sea and European educational projects. He has published articles in international referred journals and conferences.

Capt. Georgoulis Georgios was born in Chios in 1964 and he graduated from the 1ST General Lyceum of Chios in 1981. ¶ Then he studied in the Merchant Marine Academy of Oinousses from where he graduated in 1983. From 1983 until 1985 he served in oceangoing cargo vessels as a Cadet. ¶In 1985 he acquired the second officer licence and served as a second officer in oceangoing bulk carriers and tankers until 1987 when he served in Martial Naval as an acting Sub-lieutenant until 1989 and was released as a Reserve Officer. ¶He continued his career as a deck officer in oceangoing tankers of various capacities with speciality on Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC). ¶After having studied in the Educational Centre of Merchant Marine officers he acquired in 2000 the Captain Licence and he served as a Captain in Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) until 2003 when he was engaged by the University of the Aegean in the department of Shipping Trade and Transport as a Technical and Teaching Associate to support the Nautical studies in both under graduated and post graduated programs where he works until today He received a MSc from University of the Aegean emphasizing in new technologies for Maritime industry on 2007 and he is a PhD candidate since 2010. From February 2011 to July 2012 he worked in the ministry of maritime affairs as an advisor to the secretary general. ¶He is an active Captain and he is specialised on seafarer education issues, on the International Safety Management Code, on the ISPS Code and on maritime Risk Assesment.

Dr. Loukas Dimitriou is appointed Lecturer, in the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus and Chair of the Lab. for Transport Engineering. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a Ph.D. from Dept. of Transportation Planning and Engineering, NTUA. For the period 2011-2013 he was appointed Assistant Professor at King Saud University, School of Civil Engineering, Prince Mohamed bin Naif Chair for Traffic Safety Research, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His academic and professional activities relates to the analysis of travel demand, freight systems, the use of advanced methods and techniques for optimizing transportation systems' design and in developing frameworks for supporting decisions in his fields.
