5G Technology on networks and communications is the natural successor of 4G Technology for both wired and wireless systems to provide services with high speed and robust coverage at the user end. 4G is designed to provide specific services to the users according to current technology. But what could be more interesting is to investigate further users to provide services according to their needs. This idea meaning of 5G, to be «User Centric». Furthermore, another important aspect of 5G is the interoperability that will be able to provide between different systems leading in a deeper integration of on communications and networks. 5G is envisioned to be a system where speed and coverage are no longer the top leading starring roles but many more. Towards that idea regulatory authorities and standardization bodies are setting new rules and bringing together different technologies such as Internet of Thing (IoT), Smart Energy Grid, Smart Cities, Smart Health, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Device-to-Device (D2D) Communications, Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV). All the aforementioned technologies and many more can be enabled, providing improved Quality of Service (QoS), Grade of Service (GoS) compared to current communication and networking technology.

As a technology,  5G doesn’t entirely design and produce new protocols, but will have the ability to interconnect systems and services, thus having as its final target to provide “interoperability in communications and networks”. Considering the user-centric model which will be implemented by 5G, this idea is translated as “a Panorama of Services on the hand of the user”. But what is 5G? This is a critical question for many people that work in the field of communication and networks. From the educational perspective field of view, this summer school has as its purpose to cover that need, by answering the aforementioned question with a series of lectures and workshops taught by world renowned experts in the areas, such as:

  • Dense and Access Networks
  • MIMO & mmWave
  • Smart Energy Grid and Smart Cities
  • Cloud and IPv6 Networks
  • VoLTE – LTE-Advanced
  • Network Virtualization and Software Defined Networks
  • Indoor Localization
  • Network Technologies and Management
  • Cooperative Technologies

If you join AegeanNetCom2017 you will:

  • Get acquainted with state of the art technologies in Communication systems and Networking

  • Work in teams to develop a detailed image regarding simulation procedures based on networking design

  • Familiarize with aspects and terms of Networking from research to market implementation

  • Learn about the life-cycle of a networking technology and the updating techniques to be characterized as future proof.

  • Have an unforgettable sunny learning experience in a beautiful Greek island.

The program is designed for senior undergraduate and graduate students (already enrolled in a MSc/PhD program) from Universities in Greece and abroad in the fields of electrical engineering, electronic engineering, communication and networking engineering and related disciplines. Young and senior professionals that wish to specialize or update their knowledge in the area of communication and networking, are also welcome to join.

The interested students should first apply here and then, upon acceptance, they will be informed about the payment procedure.

All educational sessions will be carried out in  English

All participants that will successfully fulfill course requirements will receive a "certification of attendance".

After the completion of the summer school all participants will have to write a report (5000-7000 words) on a specific subject, 6 weeks  after the end of the Summer School.  The report is obligatory for receiving 3  ECTS credits; otherwise 2 ECTS will be validated.
