From 6 -15 July 2020, the first edition of the International Maritime Informatics Summer School (#MaritimeInformatics2020) will take place on the island of Syros in Greece.

It shall host a diverse multinational group of up to 50 students and a lineup of world renowned speakers, during a eight-day programme that will allow participants to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of maritime informatics.

The Summer School will provide a number of introductory lectures covering the main topics related to Maritime Informatics. It is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of computer science and maritime studies. It is also directed towards field practitioners wanting to gain insights into the most recent developments in maritime informatics. Attendees can expect a sound overview of state-of-the-art maritime informatics and the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the most commonly used datasets, reporting systems, AI and visualisation methods.

During the Summer School, participants will follow lectures and work on challenging assignments provided by prominent international and domestic organisations. Lectures will cover a wide range of topics including but not limited to,

  • Maritime Reporting Systems and Data
  • Information and Communication Systems
  • Decision Support Systems
  • Data Fusion
  • Mobility Analytics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Robotics and Autonomous ships
  • Analytics and AI

Additionally, a number of experiments and demonstrations will take place at sea using beyond state of the art naval robotics equipment.

The aim is to provide a unique multidisciplinary week of learning and doing maritime informatics.

The Maritime Informatics Summer School is entitled to award 3 ECTS points for participation.
