Manussos Marangudakis

Manussos Marangudakis is Professor of Comparative Sociology at the University of the Aegean. Previously he has held posts at Queen’s University in Belfast and the University of Ulster. He has been Fulbright Scholar and visiting Professor at Yale University – Center of Cultural Sociology, Hellenic Observatory (LSE) grant holder for 2013, and Director of the MA Program European Societies and European Integration (2010-2013). His work focuses on cultural sociology, civilizational analysis and historical-comparative sociology. He has published on subjects such as the Greek crisis, American fundamentalism, axial civilizations, and the social construction of nature.

John O’Brien

John O'Brien holds a PhD in Sociology from University College Cork, Ireland, and studied social science in University College Dublin. He is a Lecturer in Sociology in Waterford Institute of Technology. His current research focuses on collective memory and commemoration, examining how the centenaries of the revolutionary period of modern Irish history (1912-22) are being commemorated. Alcohol consumption, intoxication and the night-time economy are also research interests. Recent publications deal with Plato’s dialogue Statesman, city planning and the development of the night-time economy in Dublin, alcohol-related public order offences, and unemployment.
Panagiotis Grigoriou

Panagiotis Grigoriou is Professor at the University of the Aegean in Greece and President of the Department of Sociology (2011-2012). Since September 2014, he is Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences. Since 2002, he is tutor of the European Chair Jean Monnet on European Political Integration: European Chair Jean Monnet on European Political Integration/ The social and institutional transformation of Europe. The European Union in search of internal cohesion and identity on the international scene (2002-2009), European Chair Jean Monnet ad personam on European Political Integration/European Integration and European Societies (2010-) and of the Jean Monnet European Modules on “European Identity and Fundamental Rights in EU” (2013-) and “EU Economic and Social Coherence Issues” (2015-). He coordinates the e-learning programme organised by the University of the Aegean on the matter “International law of human rights and International humanitarian law”.
Triantafyllos Karatrantos

Triantafyllos Karatrantos is International Relations and Security Expert. He is Senior Advisor on Radicalization, Organised Crime and Terrorism Research & Prevention Policies at the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) and a Phd Candidate in European Security and asymmetric threats- University of the Aegean. Mr Karatrantos is Lecturer at the National Security School of Greece on the topics “Multiculturalism, Migration and Security, Intercultural Policing, Radicalization and Community Policing”. Since 2014 is Research Associate at the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) responsible for training programs and European and research projects. Mr. Karatrantos is currently coordinating on behalf of KEMEA four EU funded projects on radicalization. He is also member of CEPOL network experts and a specialized trainer on hot-spots trends and challenges and FTF’s common identification indicators. Mr. Karatrantos holds a BA in "International Relations and Organizations in the Mediterranean" from the Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of Aegean and a Masters degree on "International and European Studies" from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Mr. Karatrantos is also a certified by RAN COE trainer in Radicalization and Member of the RAN LOCAL Group. Since 2005, when awarded to him as a member of a youth team his first European grant from the Program Youth, he is actively coordinates and participates to the implementation of European and Research projects. The last years he focuses on first line practitioners training programs, especially short courses for Law Enforcement personnel. He has attended numerous workshops, seminars, conferences and schools, both in Greece and abroad, on security and international relations. He has numerous publications, communications and presentations on security in Greece and abroad.
Aleksandra Nesic

Aleksandra Nesic holds a PhD in International Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Masters in Intercultural Communication and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Aleksandra is currently a Senior Social Scientist and a Professor of Cultural-Conflict Psychology at the US Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (USASOC/SOCOM). She is also a Visiting Faculty at the Joint Special Operations University (USSOCOM) in Tampa, Florida and a Senior Faculty of Human Security at the School for International Training, Graduate Institute of World Learning, Washington DC. Her ongoing research and teaching centers on socio-cultural and psychological aspects of irregular and unconventional warfare, ethic and civil wars, specific to the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa. Currently, Dr. Nesic is examining the formation and spread of violent extremist ideologies employed by groups such as Daesh and their recruitment strategies, as well as developing resilience methods for individuals and communities vulnerable to extremist recruitment, specifically among the war-traumatized refugee populations.

Christina Papadopoulou: Political/Social Scientist. With an academic background in International Relations (Panteion and Paris I-Sorbonne), Political Sociology and Analysis of the Arab World (IEP de Paris), and Penitentiary Policy at Oxford University, Ms Papadopoulou has conducted research with the Athens University and Cairo University (1991-1996); as Head of Mission in Palestine, with Médecins du Monde (1997-1998); Coordinator for the Middle East & North Africa with the IRCT (International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims) in Copenhagen (1999-2003), Senior Human Rights Officer with the NCHR (National Commission for Human Rights, 2004-2013); MENA Manager with the IRCT, based in Jordan (2013-2016). Since October 2016, she acts as Senior Advisor with the same organization and the NGO CMF-MENA (Centre for Media Freedom).
She has published articles, essays and studies in newspapers and journals on Mediterranean Affairs (Al Ahram Weekly, Confluences Méditerranée, Forced Migration Review) and in the publications of the NCHR on human rights protection, refugees and migrants, religious freedom, trafficking, detention conditions, mental health and protection of minorities. She has also contributed in the Women’s Counseling volume: "Breaking Barriers" (ed. Ellinika Grammata, 2008), and in the book of Libby Arcel: “The trauma of the Asia Minor Catastrophe in three generations" (ed. Kedros, 2014).
Magda Rooze
TERorism and Radicalization - Senior advisor of Arq Psychotrauma Expert Group
Magda Rooze holds an MA in Psychology and a Master in Business Administration (MBA), she was the director/corporate executive of the Impact Foundation, Dutch Knowledge & Advice Centre for Post-Disaster Psychosocial Care, which she founded in 2002 and which she leaded for 9 years. The knowledge centre became an important player in the field of crisis and disasters. Magda was responsible for achieving several important guidelines for the field that are now used as standard practice. Magda was able to acquire a large number of national and European projects for the knowledge centre. She strongly promotes international cooperation. She is the convenor of the Standing Committee on Crisis and Disaster Psychology of the European Federation of Psychologists Associations. Since 2012 Magda works on the prevention of terrorism and radicalization on a European level. She is the project leader for Arq for three new European projects which started in 2017, in three different EU funding programs: Horizon 2020, DG Justice and Erasmus+, with a special focus on schools, families, formers, Law Enforcement Agencies and prison staff. Magda is member of the Technical and Scientific Committee of the Global Risk Forum Davos.
